Programming the Built Environment: The BEC Approach

Jan 01, 1974

This paper defines system whereby it becomes necessary - in order to ensure satisfactory functional performance in a facility - for the designer to have an understanding of the potential ways in which the facility will be asked to perform at occupancy as well as in the future. The designer must have at his disposal a complete description of the users' requirements; in other words - problem definition. Built Environment Coordinators Limited (BEC) specializes in project coordination using the systems approach in the planning of facilities. The BEC team includes architects and engineers, combined with construction and management specialists in a totally integrated operation.
