Fast Houses in the United States

This paper discusses the many contributing factors that led to the current reality of house design and construction in the U.S. It explores the relationship of the architecture profession to the history of single-family house design in the U.S. between the founding of the profession and the early 20th century. The paper addresses the history of the architecture profession, the founding of the first professional organizations, and the resulting definition of Architecture which impacted the role of the architect in single-family house design.
