Field Thermal Performance of EIFS Using Vacuum Insulation Panels

Apr 13, 2015

This presentation describes the benefits offered by Vacuum Insulated Panels (VIPs) in term of thinner wall profiles for retrofit projects as well as on of the highest thermal resistances of any insulation technology. It also outlines a project that was designed to assess the field performance of VIP-based exterior insulation finishing system (EIFS) technology in building retrofit applications. Blower door tests indicated a 30 percent improvement in building tightness in a test house that was retrofitted with the panels, while thermography indicated a drop in heat loss and energy modeling indicated significant gas energy savings, depending o which other energy-savings measures were combined with the panel.
