Evaluation of PFI-Built James Cook University Hospital

Jul 01, 2005

This paper covers one section of a research study which evaluated the design quality of a private finance initiative (PFI) contract to rebuild the James Cook University Hospital (JCUH) on Teesside in the Northeast of England. The study has two aims: 1) to examine the process by which the concept of patient-centered care was incorporated into the design brief; 2) to discover whether that concept was realized in any noticeable and meaningful way by users of the hospital building (patients and visitors) and by staff.
